The Carolina Region Board of Directors made the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming Regional Championship Events on March 21/22 and March 28/29.
The health and safety of our Carolina Region members and families are always a priority for the Carolina Region, but the Region had hoped to delay the decision to give us the best chance to be able to hold these events that many of our members look forward to concluding their seasons each year. The board hoped to handle the current circumstances in a sensitive, responsible, and level-headed fashion with the goal of providing the services our members expect. Unfortunately, recent decisions by other organizations and groups have made it impossible for us to hold the Championships regardless of the Coronavirus situation in the next couple of weeks:
- The NCHSAA has suspended all sporting events through April 6 https://impotenciastop.pt/. Many of our events are held at schools and are no longer available for hosting.
- The NC Governor has recommended no gatherings of 100 or more in an effort to limit large gatherings and help slow down and control the spreading of the virus.
- Schools systems are beginning to close across the state.
- USA Volleyball cancelled Nationally sanctioned events through March 22 and recommended Regionally-sanctioned events do the same.
The Board did consider a postponement or rescheduling, but that has always been a difficult proposition even in the best of times. Other sporting events, school events, spring breaks, and various other life events start to make rescheduling events into April and May difficult. Securing enough facilities, officials, and teams later in the months of April and May have always been difficult and is the main reason our season always ends late March/early April each year.
We will be communicating with the few remaining special events that are CR-sanctioned in April and will post an update on our Schedule page when known. The Junior Beach tour schedule will have updates when specific tournament decisions are made.
This is not the way any of us wanted to conclude our 2020 season. It is truly unprecedented times with events cancelling all over the country. We thank all of our members and families for a great 2020 season up to this point. We wish everyone good health and safety and hope to see everyone back on the courts soon!
