Each year, USA Volleyball presents Meritorious Service Awards to individuals and/or groups that provide outstanding contributions to the sport of volleyball across the country. Each Region is allowed to nominate and select up to five individuals or groups for this recognition each year. The Carolina Region is pleased to announce the following individuals as recipients of 2003 Robert L. Lindsay Meritorious Service Awards. All award recipients will be recognized in the 2004 USA Volleyball Guidebook. A listing of all previous winners of Carolina Region Meritorious Service Awards can be found here.
Ed Matthews - Ed has has been a Club Director, Coach, and Tournament Director in the Carolina Region for many years. He is always volunteering to find facilities for tournaments in the Wentworth/Eden area whenever there is a need for more courts. Ed serves as club director and coach for the RCWVC Juniors program.
Marshall Ratliff - Marshall also is a coach and director with the RCWVC Juniors. He has also been a tournament director in the Region for the past several years. He went above and beyond the call of duty this season in finding facilities when we lost sites due to the weather. Many teams would not have been able to play this season without tournament directors like Marshall and Ed!
Ray Wiley - Ray has served as the Region Referee Chair since 1998. He has represented the Region at National meetings on many occasions and faithfully attends all Region Board meetings. Ray also gives many officiating clinics each season and also officiates several junior tournaments each season.
The Carolina Region would like to thank each of these individuals for their continued support of volleyball in North Carolina! Without people like these, the Carolina Region would not be where it is today. If you have a chance to meet these honorees or any previous year’s winners, please thank them for their many contributions!
If you would like to nominate someone for a 2004 Meritorious Service Award, please contact the Region Office. Any person that works to promote volleyball in some way is eligible.
