High Performance Program

Welcome to "the first step in the USA Volleyball Athlete Pipeline"!

The Carolina Region High Performance (HP) Program provides an opportunity for players (boys and girls) at all levels to be trained by highly skilled coaches, using the methods and techniques which earned our Olympic Teams Gold and Silver medals during the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and a Silver medal in London. It is our goal to bring a competitive, productive and challenging training environment to every player in the Carolina Region who wishes to Perform at a Higher level.

There are 3 levels in the process of making the Carolina Region High Performance Team.

Level 1 is the entry level and is open to anyone who wants to participate (no invitation needed). This includes:

  • Optional training clinics (general and position specific).  These clinics are teaching environments and there are no formal evaluations done at the clinic (so players trying new techniques are not afraid to make errors). Since it is a learning environment we expect you to make mistakes because you are trying new things. Errors will not be held against anyone; however, bad attitudes, lack of hustle, etc. will not help you get invited.
  • Carolina Region High Performance tryouts in April.

Level 2/A2 is a training group of approximately 36 players in each of the age groups:

  • Junior
  • Youth
  • USA Select
  • Future Select

This level is by invitation and will take place in May. A player may receive an invitation as a result of:

  • Performance at a Level 1 clinic (no formal evaluation is done here).
  • Performance at a Regional HP Tryout.
  • Performance at a National HP tryout (based on recommendation of evaluators to the National program).
  • Performance at prior year National High Performance or Carolina Region High Performance (based on recommendation of coaching staff).

Level 3/A1 is a smaller training group selected from the Level 2/A2 training group. It consists of the players selected for the Carolina Region High Performance team to the National HP Championships and their alternates. This group will be between 18-24 players (we train more than just the team since players may have injuries, become sick or encounter another reason that they are not able to go to the Championships and we need the player replacing them to be prepared).

HP Program Athlete Database

In past seasons, we have created and maintained a separate Athlete Database for participants to fill out before attending their first HP clinic of the season. We will not have a separate HP Athlete Database this season as most of the information we collected can already be accessed in the Carolina Region Registration System. We are asking all High Performance Clinic attendees to log in to their Carolina Region Membership Account and make sure all your contact information is current and up-to-date. Also, please go to the "Other Info" tab at the top of your record. Once you select "Other Info", more tabs will appear about half-way down the screen. Please click on the "Player Info" and "Personal Info" tabs and fill in any information you are able. This will help both the High Performance Staff as well as your Club Coaches (Club administrators will have access to this also so can use this information for uniform/apparel orders, etc.). If any of your information changes during the season, you can log in to your record any time to keep it updated. REMINDER: You must be a current member of the Carolina Region to participate in HP Clinics, so be sure your status is "Current" before attending.
