Full Days Sessions: Max of 55 teams per session. Check-in: 7:45AM-8:05AM. Competition starts shortly after 8:15AM. Competition end anticipated around 3-4PM.
»Divisions: 2 person teams
Saturday Session: - 15-18s Girls Open (Invited Teams Only - 10 teams max from NC and 10 teams max from SC - most competitive division. Minimum of 4 spots will be reserved for 18U teams and 4 spots reserved for 16U); 18U Girls Club - Open to any team; 16U Girls Club - Open to any team
Sunday Session: - 14 and Under Girls Open (Invited Teams Only - 10 teams max from NC and 10 teams max from SC - most competitive division; 14U Girls Club - Open to any team; 12U Girls - Open to any team
*Boys divisions will be considered based on interest
Age group definitions are same as indoors.
Divisions with less than 4 teams will be combined with another division.
»Format: Divisions will consist of pools of 4 or 5 teams played in round robin fashion at any of the sites listed above. UNIQUE TO THIS EVENT: Invitational divisions will consist of NC and SC pools of teams which will determine seeding for playoffs. Playoffs will include all teams. Teams will be awarded points for their region (Carolina or Palmetto) based on finish. Club divisions will also have playoffs typically involving top 2 teams from each pool (subject to tournament director’s discretion based on size of divisions). The top 3 finishers from each region in the club divisions will also count as part of the region totals. The region with the highest point total wins the Carolina Challenge Trophy. Help your region win the trophy by participating! Additionally, top 2 finishing teams from each division win medals.
»Selection for Invitational Divisions: NC Teams: 8 of the 10 spots for each invitational division will be based on the total of average points earned per tournament for each player on the team accumulated from the 2013 Carolina Region Junior Beach Tour, which will have had at least 8 weeks of tournament options to participate in leading up to the Carolina Challenge event. If a team has played in less than 3 tournaments in 2013, then the most recent results from 2012 will be incorporated so at least 3 tournament results are used. If a team has moved to a different age group from 2012 to 2013 then 50% of points awarded in 2012 will be used in calculating average points per tournament. The remaining 2 spots will serve as "wildcards" whereby the Carolina Region will determine out of the remaining teams not automatically selected based on points who should participate in the invitational divisions. These team point calculations will be done based on the the players that form teams to sign up for the Carolina Challenge by Monday, June 3rd. Players that normally play together are not obligated to play together for this event if there is a scheduling conflict for one of the players. The remaining player is free to sign-up with another player and the combined average points/tournament calculation will be used to determine that team’s eligibility in the invitational divisions.
»Fees: $20/player ($40 for team). PRE-PAYMENT BY MAY 28th WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT. Details to be provided when registration opens up.
»USAV Membership Required: This event is sanctioned by Carolina Region/USA Volleyball. If you do not have a membership from playing indoor club volleyball (regardless of region), you can join for $15 for the summer or $5 for a single event here. Be sure to bring proof of membership to check-in if signing up online prior to an event. Forms will also be available at check-in to fill out.
