Referee Good Standing Policy

Based on the requirement established by the National Office of USA Volleyball, each National and Jr. National Referee must maintain a status of "Good Standing" within their local region. Each region must establish a policy which sets forth the requirements it deems necessary for the operations and advancement of volleyball.

To meet the requirement of the National Office, the Carolina Region establishes the following point system to maintain a "Good Standing" status within the region.

GOOD STANDING - A referee in good standing within the Carolina Region will have all rights to officiate within the region and within USA Volleyball according to their level of certification. To maintain these rights, the following must be accomplished on an annual basis.

  • The referee must register as member of Carolina Region/USA Volleyball.
  • The referee must attend approved clinics (referee & scorekeeping).
  • The referee must complete and pass the appropriate tests (referee & scorekeeping).
  • The referee must earn ten (10) points over a two year period; a minimum of four (4) points must be earned in each year. At least one (1) point must be earned per year through refereeing within the region.

PROBATIONARY- A referee in a probationary status will maintain their rights to officiate within the region and within USA Volleyball according to their level of certification with possible limitations. A referee is placed in this status for:
  • Not earning a minimum four (4) points in a single year.
  • Not earning ten (10) points over the two year period.
  • Actions or behaviors deemed detrimental to or against the sportsmanship policy of USA Volleyball.

NON-CERTIFIED - A referee in a non-certified status will be reported to the National Office of USA Volleyball. In addition, the referee will forfeit the right to officiate within the region or within USA Volleyball. A referee is placed in this status for:
  • Failure to meet good standing policies in consecutive years.
  • Failure to earn any points during a year.
  • Actions or behaviors deemed detrimental to or against the sportsmanship policy of USA Volleyball.
