Karl Owen, President of CR Board of Directors

We are most of the way through another indoor season of Carolina Region volleyball. Thank you for your participation and support of our great sport!

Congratulations to the three junior girls' teams that have already earned bids to the 2008 Junior Olympic Championships in Dallas. They earned their bids at the Big South Qualifier and that means we have the opportunity to send more teams to the JO Championships. We also had two adult teams win their division at the 2008 Hi Neighbor. We are proud of the success our teams are earning and the level to which they aspire. Check out our Region Achievements page in this newsletter for more details.

One matter of concern for the Board is adult behavior at JO tournaments. The Region is getting more reports of inappropriate behavior at tournaments by spectators and coaches (fortunately, the players are not part of the problem). This will be a major topic at the upcoming meetings of the Junior Advisory Board and Board of Directors. We cannot tolerate adults disrupting tournaments and setting bad examples for our Junior athletes. Please join us at the upcoming meetings or send us your feedback through the season-ending surveys or by email. We invite all possible ideas on how the Region can address this issue so our players and officials can have a positive environment in which to enjoy volleyball.

Thank you again for your support. We hope you have a great summer, and enjoy the sand and grass courts!
