Office Notes

Kevin Wendelboe, Director of Operations

It is hard to believe that we're already over half way done with the 2006/2007 season! Regional Championships are just around the corner. We'll have a full wrap-up of 2006/2007 award winners and Regional Champions in the next newsletter.

We have had another successful membership this season. We are currently at 4780 a 400+ jump from last season (1354 Adult and 3426 Juniors). We have 22 Men's teams, 32 Women's teams, 6 Junior boys teams, and 347 Junior girls teams. We'll be sanctioning some outdoor events this summer so our totals should continue to rise.

The online registration system has helped overall, but I realize there were some serious difficulties with the system this year. This is the third season the system has been used (we were one of the original test regions) and more and more regions are joining it. With that growth caused some complications. USA Volleyball and the developer worked hard, as issues arose, to get the system back to performing as it intended. Several individuals got caught in the bugs, but hopefully we got it straightened out. As this is a National system, the Carolina Region does not have total control over the operations of the system. There are things we'd like to see added or improved, but they don't always get implemented on our timeline (or at all) since this is a national system designed to be used by 40 different Regions and USA Volleyball. But, rest assured, USAV is committed to making the system as useful and user-friendly as possible and you will continue to see improvements and enhancements in the seasons to come. One thing that may come next year is online signatures! With this, individuals will no longer need to mail in their waiver and releases. This will save members time and the office some storage space! More on that as it develops.

The Board will have two important meetings coming up - the Annual Meeting on May 6 and the Board Retreat on August 10-11, 2007. Our season ending surveys will be posted and distributed shortly. We invite everyone to give us your feedback as we begin planning for the next season. We need your responses in order to best meet your needs while preserving the integrity of the sport in North Carolina. Leading into these meetings, send your ideas and suggestions about anything at all concerning volleyball in the Carolina Region to the Region office and I'll pass them along. Click on the links at the left for more information on the Annual meeting. The Junior Advisory Board is scheduled to meet May 5 in Clemmons. An announcement will be posted on the Junior page shortly.

A preliminary 2007 Outdoor schedule has now been posted to the website. More dates will be added as tournament directors send in their information. Still to come is the 2007 Summer Camp schedule. It will be posted in Junior section and schedules links when ready.

Our website was re-designed for this season. We hope you enjoy it's functionality. Please let me know if there is any way we can improve your experience with our website.

Thanks, as always, for your support.
