Governance Changes

The Carolina Region Board of Directors has made some big changes to the way that the Region is governed. I would like to tell you what we did and why you should care.

First of all, what we did: at a high level we have provided a lot more independence to various parts of the Region and created many more opportunities for individuals (meaning you!) to get involved. Each of our major constituencies now has its own advisory Board, and those Boards in turn filter up to a streamlined Region Board of Directors. This means that there are separate advisory Boards for Adults, Juniors, and Officials (and we will add more as needed). These advisory Boards will meet periodically and will be augmented by direct access to their constituents by email lists. They will be responsible in large part for setting policy and managing operations within their realm.

As I mentioned before, the Region Board of Directors is now streamlined and freed up to focus on strategic planning instead of operational details. The Region Board consists of officers and representatives from each of the advisory Boards. In addition to strategy, the Region Board will have overall budget responsibility as well as supervising the Region Staff.

So, why should you care? Because these changes should make it much easier for you to have direct influence on how you participate in USA Volleyball (and do so with whatever time commitment you care to make). If you are a Juniors coach, you can serve on the Juniors advisory Board and help ensure that we manage the growth of our JO program fairly and effectively. If you are an adult player and you have some great ideas on how to get more adults playing the indoor game then join the advisory Board (or simply join the email list) and put your ideas out there. Are you an official with a great idea on how to improve recertification clinics? Jump in!

The Carolina Region is always looking for people who want to help make volleyball better for all of us. New ideas are the life blood of any organization, and the Region is no exception. The Region Board believes that these changes will make it easier for people to get involved and implement new ideas. Please tell us if we are on the right track.
