Here is some recent accomplishments that Deserve Regional Recognition!
USA VOLLEYBALL AWARD WINNERS:
Congratulations to Chuck McCracken, Carolina Region Director of Programs & Member Development, Junior Club Director, and Official, for receiving a 2004 George J. Fisher Leader In Volleyball Award and the YJOV Outstanding Clinician Award from USA Volleyball at their awards banquent in Atlanta before the 2004 US Open Volleyball Championships. Congratulations to Wade Brence for receiving the 2004 Silver Whistle Award at the 2004 US Open Volleyball Championships. The Silver Whistle award is awarded annually to the outstanding official for work in the year after they received their rating (i.e. a Rookie of the Year award!). Congratulations to Amber Fulk for receiving the 2004 Golden Pen Award at the 2004 US Open Volleyball Championships. The Golden Pen award is awarded annually to the outstanding scorekeeper for work at the previous US Open Championships. Amber's picture is posted at USA Volleyball's web page.
NEW JUNIOR NATIONAL OFFICIAL:
Congratulations to Randall Burdin of Jacksonville who received his Junior National Referee rating this season.
2004 YOUTH NATIONAL TEAM:
Congratulations to Megan Hodge (Triangle VBC) of Durham for being selected to the 2004 USA Girls' Youth National Team by USA Volleyball. This is a huge honor and great achievement for a junior player (a first for someone from North Carolina). Megan trained with the team this summer and competed in a NORCECA event in Puerto Rico with the team. The full roster can be found at USA Volleyball's web site. USA Volleyball sent out updates on the team's progress in Puerto Rico and Megan had a HUGE impact!! We have reproduced all the press releases here for all to track Megan's and the team's success. Congratulations, Megan!
2004 AAU ALL-AMERICANS:
Congratulations to Melissa DeLuca and Megan Hodge of Triangle 18's who were recognized as 18 and under All-Americans at the 2004 AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando. Their team finished tied for 5th in the tournament! Great job, ladies!
2004 SAMMY WINNER:
Congratulations to Kelly Higgins (Cape Fear VBC) of Wilmington for receiving a 2004 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Award from the Milk Mustache Campaign. She was awarded a $7500 college scholarship, an invitation to attend the award's weekend at Disney's Wide World of Sports, and her picture in Sports Illustrated and USA Today. Congratulations, Kelly!
