Carolina Region Announces New Head Coach
High Performance Team and Camps

Chris Redding, Appalachian State University

USA Volleyball and the Carolina Region are proud to announce the selection of Chris Redding, from Appalachian State University as the Head Coach of the North Carolina High Performance Team and High Performance Camps.

The mission of the Carolina Region High Performance program is to provide the top athletes and coaches in the Region with the opportunity to train and compete together at a high level. There are two levels in the High Performance program, one for athletes primarily under 16, and one for those under 18. In conjunction with the National High Performance Program, we are always identifying athletes that can enter the USA Volleyball Pipeline.

This year the Carolina Region hopes to send a team of 16 and under athletes to compete in the Colorado Cup, a tournament consisting of the top High Performance teams in the US and possibly teams from Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. In addition, the Carolina Region plans to host the Mid-Atlantic High Performance Tournament where the best 18 and under and 16 and under teams from five different states will compete.

"I am excited to see NC finally develop a place for its elite athletes to train and compete on a higher level. It will be interesting to see how our athletes compete against the other High Performance teams. Traditionally NC has not been known as an elite volleyball community. Hopefully these teams can prove that myth wrong." states Craig Lenniger, Director of NC High Performance Programs.

Chris Redding brings to the team incredible credentials. At the college level, in 1998 as the Assistant Coach at the University of Florida he helped lead the Lady Gators to an NCAA Final Four appearance. As an Assistant coach at the University of Northern Florida and the University of the Pacific, Chris helped both teams reach the NCAA Tournament. In 1993 as an assistant coach for Cal State Bakersfield, he helped lead the team to the NCAA Div II Championship Game, only to fall short. In 1994 he helped the Road Runners return to the NCAA Div II Championship Game, this time to claimed the championship.

In addition, Chris brings an extensive juniors coaching background with him. Redding's teams have won the Mizuno Peach Tree Classic and the Las Vegas Invitational. He also coached his team to a second place finish at the 1995 Davis Festival in Davis, California.

Chris states, "USA Volleyball and the Carolina Region have created a great opportunity for these players and the coaching staff to train and compete at a high level. These types of experiences will help raise the level of junior volleyball across the country. I am excited to work with the best junior players and represent the Carolina Region."
