CAROLINA REGION HIGH PERFORMANCE
PROGRAM HISTORY

USA Volleyball developed it's High Performance Program in 1997/1998 to identify and develop athletes at an earlier age for possible advancement to the National Teams. Since 1998, the High Performance Program has grown tremendously across the United States. USAV holds tryouts at National Qualifiers and other selected events. It holds Clinics and Camps in the summer with the goal of developing elite athletes at an earlier age. USAV has developed an "Athlete Pipeline" in which the High Performance Program is a key element. Several of the current National Team members have risen through the ranks of the High Performance Program.

The Carolina Region began its High Performance Program in 2001. HP Clinics were held across the state and Youth and Junior High Performance Teams were selected to come to the first ever Carolina Region High Performance Camp at Appalachian State University. The Youth team then flew to Colorado Springs for the Colorado Cup, competing against other USAV Region's High Performance Teams.

The Carolina Region continued to develop the program in 2002. Full day Clinics were held across the state for Boys and Girls and even more athletes were invited to the HP Camp (at Guilford College). Both the Youth and Junior teams flew to Salt Lake City for the 2002 VolleyClassic.

2003 saw our HP Program expand even more. We held more one-day clinics, had more players involved with the program, and took two teams to the VolleyClassic in Utah.

2004 saw the Region hire a full-time staff to oversee Carolina Region Progams of which the HP Program is a key part! The result was more clinics, more participants, a revamping of the clinics, and three teams participating at the 2004 HP Championships in Austin!

2005 saw the Carolina Region send FOUR teams to Austin, TX for the HP Championships.

2006 saw the Region send four teams to Ft. Lauderdale for the High Performance Championships and a Junior Team to the Domincan Republic for our first international exposure.

2007 saw four more teams travel to Ft. Lauderdale for the HP Championships and the addition of Boys competition at those Championships (The Carolina Region did not send a boys team that year but began adding plans to expose the program to more Boys in the Region).

2008 had the HP Championships in Tucson, AZ and the Carolina Region sent FOUR teams.

For 2009, the Carolina Region hired a High Performance Program Director as part-time staff to continue the success of the program, and sent our first HP Boys team to the 2009 HP Championships in Ft. Lauderdale!
