  4. State of the Region - Chuck McCracken

To begin with, our web site continues to be a plus for us. A lot of positive comments have come our way for the web site. Juniors are still growing but rate of growth has slowed a little. Number of facilities available to host events for Juniors may become a problem if we continue to grow. A high percentage of adult teams participated in Qualifier and/or Regionals. We're developing some excellent junior-age officials. We received positive feedback that we offered Coed tournaments again. Challenges our Region faces in the future - there is a trend in the adults that they don't want to go very far to play. We need to continue to push to develop the AA level for Men and Women. We may want to plan some tournaments for AA Women and 18 Open teams. We need to continue to reach out to collegiate players that are graduating. We need to continue to promote our 14 and under division and to encourage boys to play. Our training of adult officials will be a challenge. We need to identify ways to support outdoor volleyball. We need to find new leaders to support and step into our organization and lead us down the line. Sportsmanship issues continue to be an issue. We're getting big enough that we may need to have the business of the Region run by a paid Executive Officer.

On a National level, we have a group of leaders that are more financially-minded and forward-looking. They are on track of turning organization around. The National Office is in process of moving to another Office Building, which will give them much more space to work. USAV has a new presence on the Internet, which has had a positive impact on information dissemination. The National staff has gone through some reorganization - Tom Pingel now is on staff as Junior/Youth development, Mike Chandler is in charge of Championship Events, Margie Mara has more help in support of the Regions. The feeling is this will be last Junior Championships together in same city. Some discussions on having another division at Nationals (a Region Champion division). US Open (adults) is in Columbus, Ohio next year then in Milwaukee, WI. Nearer to us so hope our teams can participate. Last major development is rule changes. Open level will have libero. Subs will be 15 team unlimited individual. Over next couple years will move to the international scoresheet. Sanction levels for misconduct have changed. Games are now all rally - 25 point. Deciding games to 15.

  5. Old Business - none
  6. New Business - none
  7. Meeting adjourned - Motion by Karl, Dan to adjourn Annual Meeting. MSA 2:00 pm.
