Motion 2: MSA Approve the Treasurer's Report as presented by Dan 9-0-1
III. Division Meetings:
Juniors - mainly discussed upcoming Junior Regionals which will be discussed by full Board later. No further report.
Adults - There was a complaint from an out-of-Region team about a threat to an official at Hi Neighbor. Chuck will contact Jeff Joyce to get their version of incident before we decide if any action needs to be taken.
There is a request from an adult team going to Nationals for help in paying entry fee. All agreed that this will be decided for all adult and junior teams going to Nationals at our retreat when our budget situation is clearer.
A team that withdrew from Adult Regionals within 3 weeks of date has petitioned for full refund. Motion from Committee to:
Motion 3: MSA The Carolina Region will provide a refund up to $50 to What Defense provided the Region has a surplus from Adult Regional Championships' operations that will cover it. 9-0-1
IV. Junior Regionals
Marilyn still has needs for site managers at Butler HS, Volleyball Unlimited, Davidson College, and Wake Forest. Any Board members that can help are encouraged to volunteer. If Marilyn cannot find a manager, she has authority to strike a deal with facility host to sell our shirts for up to 10% of proceeds. Those helping out will meet after meeting to distribute materials and shirts. Motion by John Boger, second by Karl:
Motion 4: MSA Marilyn may spend up to $100 in hiring someone to help run Regionals at a site if she is unable to find a BOD member to run it.
V. Board Retreat
Marilyn is still looking for a site for this year's retreat. She wants permission to go ahead and book next year's location now as many of these places book 2-3 years in advance. Board gave her permission to do this. Marilyn is looking at a site in Wilmington and will check with Blue Ridge Assembly to see if they are available. She will announce to BOD as soon as possible.
VI. Adult Regionals Report:
59 of 83 teams registered for the Adult Regional Championships (Qualifiers included). So far, the feedback has been very positive. Karl noted that getting the information set and out to teams earlier and the willingness of Board to run sites made this year's event much better.
VII. Other Business -
Chuck mentioned that Tom Monoghan has just moved to NC and indicated willingness to serve as Outdoor Coordinator for Region. He is in process of contacting some other Regions to see what they do with outdoor.
Maria Byars requested financial help from the Region for this year's Great Eight High School tournament in Greensboro. The Finalists from last year's State Championships will be playing on August 28th. Maria would like the Region to sponsor the Reception on Friday night for $500. Motion by Karl, second by Dan to:
Motion 5: MSA The Carolina Region will provide the Great Eight with a sponsorship between $250 and $500. The final amount will be determined at the retreat by a committee that will determine what we can afford and what we may want in return. 7-1-1
Fred asked Board to think about alternative ways of building membership. Example he gave was running weekday leagues and not focusing so much on our tournament structure.
Chuck and Dennis have been in discussion about the Ref Chair position. Dennis has indicated that he doesn't have time to fully commit to the position. Chuck is working on finding a replacement.
VIII. Meeting Adjourned - 3:35 pm.
