CAROLINA REGION/USAV BOD MINUTES

ATTENDEES: Fred Wendelboe, John Boger, Annette Stanley, Chuck McCracken, Karl Owen, Marion Horton, Kevin Wendelboe, Dan Pickett, Marilyn Thompson, Robyn Wesselman, Jeff Hoppen, Janet Perry, Susie Griffin

NON-ATTENDEES: Marie Gray, Dennis Branch, Dee Yoe, John Coulter, Matt Layko

Meeting began at 3:02 pm

I. Motion to approve March 14 minutes. MSA

II. Treasurer's Report - Dan handed out Variance Report. BOD should be aware that Region may take large hit when IRS penalties are announced. There is enough in reserves to cover a maximum penalty. Region has begun quarterly payments for 1997 salary withholding. Motion by John Boger, second by Karl Owen to:

Motion 1: Approve the Variance Report as presented by the Treasurer. MSA 10-0

III. ABO Clinic:

NTT Official's Clinic set for August 9 and 10 at UNC-Chapel Hill. This clinic would count for USAV people if they want to come. Chuck feels that our raters and Junior National Candidates should be required to attend this clinic. Motion by Fred, second by Marion that:

Motion 2: The Carolina Region will pay up to 50% of the clinicians fees and cost of putting on the clinic not to include individual materials. MSA 8-0-2

IV. BOD Retreat

No site determined yet for June 20-22 retreat. Annette and Janet will get material from Michelle and find a spot.

V. Facility Grant Request

Passed memo around from Fred and Jeff concerning Davie YMCA's requests. They recommended outright grant of $2000. Motion by Fred, second by Marion to:

Motion 3: Allow Commissioner to approach the Davie YMCA with counter-offer of giving them $2500 and up to $1000 more if they agree to run four tournaments the first year. MSA 10-0

VII. New Business -

A. Junior Nationals Entries

We received 1 entry for Junior Nationals from a team on Tuesday, April 29 (with a postmark of April 28th). Deadline for these entries was for Office to receive by Monday, April 28th. Cover letter (mailed March 25th) passed around that shows in three separate places that the entries are to be received by April 28th. Motion by Karl, second by Dan that:

Motion 4: We will not accept any more Junior National entries. MSA 7-0-3

Motion by Marilyn, second by Susie that:

Motion 5: We will not accept the late entry received April 29th. Motion failed 4-4-2

Motion by Karl, second by Marion that:

Motion 6: We will accept the entry received April 29th contingent upon receiving payment prior to Regionals of $200 late fee from the team. MSA 6-1-3

B. Issue of Pannix Club passing players on one team off as members of another team at the May 3 tournament. Junior Group decided to stay after meeting to discuss possible responses.

Meeting ended with pictures of the new BOD and final preparations for Junior Regional Championships.
